Bubinga, from the Gifted Wood series. After I was featured in a news article, an older gentleman tracked down my information and gifted me some absolutely exquisite wood; this piece was part of that gift. I take on only one or two gifted-wood pieces a year, and only when the wood calls to me. This one called. The design is mid-century modern inspired, and the tone of the wood is exquisite: deep, warm, and heavy in the hand in a way none of my prairie salvage is. I half suspect its true destiny is as a dough bowl for someone deeply serious about artisanal sourdough. Maybe that is silly. Maybe it is exactly right.
No Winnipeg boulevard for this one. Bubinga grows in central Africa, and this piece reached me as a gift: a stranger read about my work in the news and decided his best wood belonged on my bench. The Gifted Wood series exists because of that kind of generosity. It gets no pin on the map; its provenance is a kindness, not a location.
One of one. When it is gone, it is gone. Ships worldwide, fully insured, from the Winnipeg workshop. Every piece carries its tree’s record: where it stood, its rings, and the carving on film. Leave your details and Sean replies personally, usually the same day.
