The piece

Why this one exists

From the same fire-rescued apple as the twist vase, and this one leans into something collectors taught me: people kept growing living flowers out of my vases, so this cavity is carved wide on purpose. It is a vase built to be planted. The texture runs over only half the form, so it tells a different story from every angle as you turn it, and when light rakes across from the right direction the dimples fall into a pattern that is quietly mesmerizing. The rim is carved on an angle, a signature you will find on most of my vases. Brass against apple, warmth against shine: the pairing I keep coming back to. One more thing, a working note from the bench: apple smells absolutely fantastic while it is being carved. It is my favourite wood, and the smell is half the reason.

The tree

It stood here

The second Facebook responder's tree: an apple in River Park South that was destined for the fire until my neighbourhood post found it. Same tree as the twist vase in this collection. The pin marks the neighbourhood; the address stays theirs.

The glow marks the neighbourhood. Exact addresses stay private.
