The show piece of the twist series. Applewood is heavenly: the colour, the texture, and the smell of it coming off the gouge. It is forgiving under the tools, and when it is properly sanded it turns almost soft, the closest a hardwood gets to a warm hug. This is a very large vase meant to live out in the open all year round, holding a dried arrangement or, if you follow the habit my collectors invented, something alive and growing out of it. The twist is not imposed on the wood; it is carved by following the grain itself. I watch the pattern of light and dark and accentuate wherever the wood already wants to move, so the flame running up this piece is the tree's own idea of fire. And the poetry writes itself: wood saved from the flames, carved into them instead.
The River Park South apple, second of the two Facebook responses, rescued from the firewood pile. Same tree as the other twist pieces. The pin marks the neighbourhood; the address stays theirs.

One of one. When it is gone, it is gone. Ships worldwide, fully insured, from the Winnipeg workshop. Every piece carries its tree’s record: where it stood, its rings, and the carving on film. Leave your details and Sean replies personally, usually the same day.
