I rescued this log from a burn pile in Scotia Heights, did the rough carving, and then let it sit for about a year before refining it. Because the log had waited so long before I got to it, beautiful spalting had moved in. In the refining I worked to accentuate the lines of the grain and every inclusion, and I textured the bottom, because these pieces are meant to be fondled as well as used.
The tree grew beside a house in Scotia Heights. In an ice storm its boughs were loaded with more ice than they could carry and began to crack, so the owner took the whole tree down. Several years later, when I finally got to the pile, only five pieces had escaped the fire. This is one of them.
One of one. When it is gone, it is gone. Leave your details and Sean will reply personally, usually the same day.
