Same maple, new confidence. This bowl was carved thick in my early years and then sat for a couple more, waiting for me to catch up to it. I have been playing with leather lacing in dark and light: dark leather can turn a rim into something like the ink line of a Japanese animation, a bowl drawn in one confident stroke. Here I chose light leather, and it does something completely different. It stays out of the way of the red inclusions and the colour of the wood, and it adds a texture that feels glorious in the hands, closer to the steering wheel of an expensive sports car than to anything that grew in a front yard. That is the point. This one is meant to be picked up.
Another piece of the door-knock maple: the St. Boniface front yard a few streets south of the golf course, logs on the lawn, a bowl promised in trade. That one knock keeps paying for itself.
One of one. When it is gone, it is gone. Ships worldwide, fully insured, from the Winnipeg workshop. Every piece carries its tree’s record: where it stood, its rings, and the carving on film. Leave your details and Sean replies personally, usually the same day.
