After the Free Press ran a story about my work, a retired carver found me and gave me his stash of boards. Amazing quality wood, and this cherry was one of them.
It started as an idea for a charcuterie board, but the hollows I scooped into the top kept reminding me of bubbles, so that is what it became. Turn it over and the underneath is a landscape with four peaks, one for each foot.
The cherry has a beautiful chatoyancy. Move it in the light and the grain shimmers.
Its sister, the floating board, came from the same piece of cherry.
